Are you a Gospel Promoter?

I recently heard someone describe being a promoter of Good News. In its simplest form, a promoter actively advances and spreads awareness of something they believe in. This reminded me of another season of life before ministry when I worked with a company that measured customer loyalty through a metric called Net Promoter Score (NPS).

This simple one question survey asks: “How likely are you to recommend our product to a friend?” Customers respond on a scale of 0–10 and fall into three categories: Promoters (9–10, loyal enthusiasts who drive growth), Passives (7–8, satisfied but quiet), and Detractors (0–6, unhappy customers who damage the brand through negative feedback).

The idea of being a Promoter stayed with me for a few days, and I then started considering how we are called to promote the Gospel. Jesus called us to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19–20) and invites His followers not just to believe privately, but to share actively. We are to live in such a way that others encounter and are drawn to Christ.

In business, a promoter is someone so convinced of a product’s value that they naturally recommend it. Similarly, a disciple of Jesus is meant to share how a relationship with Jesus changes everything. Not in a traditional marketing sense, but in joyfully testifying, inviting, and modeling what it means to know and trust Jesus.

Just as Passives stay quiet and Detractors push people away from a brand, a lukewarm or negative witness can obscure the Gospel. But disciples who are dedicated, like Promoters, extend God’s kingdom by embodying their faith and encouraging others to experience it themselves. Paul said: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

The question each of us should consider is simple: Am I living as a Promoter of Jesus, or am I more like a Passive—quiet, content, but hesitant to share?  Worse, could my faith sometimes resemble a Detractor. Do I discourage others by my words, actions, or attitude?

Need Him Global has been a Promoter of the Gospel for almost thirty years. We continue to see that when people experience the fullness of Christ, they don’t need pressure to share or evangelize. Their joy overflows naturally, just as a satisfied Promoter can’t help but recommend something they love.
