A glowing, circuit-like cross stands at the center of a futuristic digital landscape filled with intricate blue circuitry and technology-inspired patterns. The cross appears to be made of interconnected electronic components, symbolizing the intersection of faith and technology. The background is illuminated with a cybernetic glow, evoking a sense of spirituality in a high-tech world.

At What Cost?

In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a ubiquitous topic, sparking debates about its potential benefits and risks. As AI’s capabilities expand, a thought-provoking question emerges: What does AI want?

This inquiry invites us to consider the implications of AI’s growing influence on human life and how it aligns with our fundamental values and needs. As believers, we also must view it through a biblical lens.

One striking contrast lies in the realm of wisdom. As AI systems become increasingly adept at performing complex tasks, there’s a growing concern that humans may rely less on their own critical thinking skills. This trend stands in opposition to the age-old pursuit of wisdom and intentional thought, qualities that God’s Word speaks frequently into and that are necessary for human development and spiritual growth.

The creative domain presents another intriguing dichotomy. AI’s ability to generate written content, images, and other creative outputs is truly remarkable. However, this convenience may inadvertently diminish our own creative spirits. The challenge lies in harnessing AI as a tool to enhance human creativity rather than replace it, ensuring we continue to cultivate and express our innate talents.

Perhaps most significantly, AI is rapidly evolving as a source of connection through chatbots and virtual personalities. While these technologies may offer temporary relief from feelings of isolation, they raise important questions about the nature of genuine human interaction. There’s a risk that over reliance on AI for basic connection could lead to atrophied social skills and exacerbate feelings of loneliness. This contradicts the inherent need for authentic personal relationships and community that God created us to enjoy.

I can’t help but view these challenges from the perspective of sharing the Gospel. These trade-offs highlight the importance of approaching AI in online evangelism with caution and critical thinking.

Need Him Global is completely committed to live conversation. The moment someone turns towards Christ is not one we should pass off to technology and miss the opportunity to share how God has changed us and can do the same for this lost soul.

We continue to evaluate how AI has other practical applications to make us more effective and still align with our values, mission and commitment to offer live conversation with a follower of Jesus Christ. We are fully dedicated to harnessing the power of AI to enhance a conversation but not at the cost of sacrificing the genuine, personal interactions that are crucial for an authentic spiritual experience.
