Intern Profile: Sufnat Wasti

Several times each year we bring on a new class of interns from local seminaries.  Sufnat Wasti joined our Resident Leadership Program earlier this year. He was born in Pakistan and is currently pursuing a Masters in Christian Apologetics at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. We are grateful the Lord connected us with this young man and we thought you would enjoy getting to know him.

Tell us about your childhood

I feel very blessed that my parents were followers of Jesus in a country where 97% of people are Muslims and only 1.5% consider themselves Christian. My friends would challenge me to believe Islam and claim the Bible had been hopelessly corrupted. I would think to myself, how can it be that I alone am right and all of them wrong. This is what got me interested in apologetics.

What was your education like in Pakistan?

I attended a private university and started taking courses in Christian studies. It was there that I heard a teacher say that the only reason one can be put right with God is through Jesus Christ. This is when I fully accepted Christ’s righteousness and knew that God called me to ministry.

How did you end up in the U.S. and what does life look like here?

A missionary friend pointed me towards seminary at Southwestern several years ago and I now have almost completed my Masters. I presently attend a local international Christian church in Ft. Worth and lead a Bible study for international students at University of Texas at Arlington.  Most of the members of the group come from various backgrounds and nationalities.

What has been your experience doing online evangelism with Need Him Global?

Working with Need Him has impacted me greatly.  Every day I get to share the Gospel with people from around the world. I have talked to atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Hindus, and countless others. I have seen people come to Christ from all over the world.  God is teaching me how the Gospel is relevant to people from all backgrounds.

What has God shown you during this time with the ministry?

I feel more confident in my faith by seeing how Christianity can deal with various intellectual attacks and transform lives. Talking to people who are going through various hard situations has helped me have a heart for those hurting around me. I am more aware of the consequences sin can have on my life and learning to rely even more on God. So far it has been a great experience of trusting in the Lord, growing in knowledge, and sharing His love.

What will you do after you graduate?

I will be pursuing a PhD in Theology and then plan to return to Pakistan and teach at the university where I studied. I also hope to plant Christian churches among Muslims back home. I feel honored to be part of this ministry and fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord as it prepares me for going home.
